A Bishop is a Christian Cleric of high rank in modern churches. He is the head of the diocese. In some churches, bishops are regarded as the topmost in ordination from the apostles. The gradations to the post of Bishops include metropolitans, patriarchs, archbishops, cardinals, and popes.
Significant Meaning of Bishops
Properly ordained Bishops have the innate qualities such as sacramental authority, responsibility, and power conferred upon them by the Apostles who received it from their spiritual authority from Jesus Christ. They are known as 'princes of the church'. They are the supreme head of the diocese. Bishops wear a mister, ring, and pectoral cross.
How They Works
A Bishop has to take care of many worshippers. He is responsible for the appointment, and discipline of deacons, and priests. The sacrament of holy orders has conferred in three ranks i.e. deacons, priests, and bishops. Bishops are sometimes termed as evangelists.
A Bishop administers temporal processions of the diocese, and gives an account to the Pope. He provides education to the candidates for priesthood, and religious education to followers of Christian faith. He also has many other responsibilities such as censoring books on religion, governing the diocese etc.
A Bishop also empowers the priests to take up activities that would contribute to the overall development of the society.
Priests
Priests are also known as Elders or Presbyters. A priest works below the Bishop and above the Deacon. Priests have the authority to administer sacraments and assist the Bishop in taking care of souls.

There are many crisis situations and scandals related to priests. The result is that in some places priests have started disconnecting themselves from the bishops, and the leadership of the church. Besides these, the matter of confidentiality also arises as many personal files of priests are being under constant surveillance by the media. Due to this, the fear of being exposed in the public about abuses has arisen. This further distorts the relation between the priests and Bishops. Bishops could not help them in such circumstances. Generally, priests are much vulnerable to false allegations.
